Update 12: Nicholle Up North

Nicholle is on her Community Field Experience (May 15-June 2)

The key purpose of the Community Field Experience is for teacher candidates to experience teaching and learning in a new context that provides a more holistic view of teaching and enhances the teacher candidate’s formal teaching experience.
We also anticipate this experience will provide teacher candidates with a unique context to showcase their educational knowledge and skills, assist them in forging connections with community learning contexts outside the classroom, and open opportunities for them to begin exploring educational careers in diverse areas

CFE – EDUC 430: About https://cfe.educ.ubc.ca/about/

She is based in Inuvik, which is the only town in the Inuvik Region, and the third-largest community in Canada’s Northwest Territories.

In her own words: “I am at 68° 21′ 39″ N, 133° 43′ 47″ W, where the Beaufort Delta Divisional Education Council (BDDEC), the most Northern educational body in the Northwest Territories, is located. It took us two flights, 3 stopovers (Whitehorse, Dawson, and Old Crow), and about 6 hours flying time to get to from Vancouver. It was one of the most exciting routes I have ever taken. Honestly, how many of us get to be in the North of the Arctic Circle, let alone having the opportunity to actually spend time with and learn from the local communities about their way of being, knowing, and learning? I am extremely fortunate.”

All this coming after her 10-week practicum placement in Burnaby Central: she was given a nice send-off.
