I remember my surprise at seeing this statue on campus shortly after arriving here from China. I wrote a paper about this for a class in 2018 and it still brings a lot to mind whenever I pass it. I doubt many people know it is there or what it represents.
The construction in the area is almost complete. As a result, there will likely be a lot more foot traffic passing the statue and its prominence will be significantly elevated. I would not be at all surprised if this placement becomes problematic down the line.
